One-Year Olds
Finally— a car! Don't worry, we won't make it a habit!
To commemorate the first anniversary of the Blue Real Riders® Club, on April 1st we're releasing an ultra-cool 442!
But this is not your father's Oldsmobile! Since our members are not into redline-era castings, we're bringing you the more modern edition! This version of the early-80s GM "X-car" is specially-designed to complement the Series One Chevy Citation®, the BRR® Club's very first offering.
But our One-Year Olds is not for one-year-olds! Its Blue Pearl finish is due to copious amounts of lapis lazuli mixed into our exclusive lead-based PermaFrost® paint formula. It's also got the chewy tires that kids love to choke on! To appease more adult sensbilities, we've kept the deco to a minimum, with just a small Club logo "tramp stamp" on the car's rear end.
The Anniversary Olds will be a sure stand-out in your collection, as the only BRR® Club car that is not a Thing That's Not A Car we're offering this year.
Here are all the specs for this special release:
- PermaFrost® Blue Pearl finish
- Real Riders 5-spoke blackwall wheels
- Minimal tampos — no wild Real Riders-themed graphics
- Hood, doors, and trunk cast closed
- Full-metal jacketed, unplated chassis
- Tinted windshield with <2% UV protection
Shipping in a Hot Wheels® Kar Keepers case, each One-Year Olds is priced at only $19.99 plus S&P (shipping & processing). And, remember: renewing BRR® Club members are automatically enrolled in our new Drag Bus Club, and have the option of purchasing a leftover RLC Taxi Drag Bus instead!
There will be a purchase limit of one vehicle per BRR Club membership on the first week of availability. If quantities remain after the BRR Priority Week, it will become available to hobby stores, mass retailers, and Oldsmobile® dealerships. This item is available on a first-come, first-served basis only while supplies last.
No refunds. Exchanges may be made for BRR® Shop credit only.

Uh, the 442 is NOT an X-body or "X-car". The only relationship that car had with the Citation was that they were both made by GM. The '78 to '80 Cutlass hatchback was a G-Body. I wish they would bring the Flat Out 442 back to the mainline, or at least make it a Classics, or even a Larry's Garage car, since Larry Wood did design it. That would make a sweet T-Hunt!

I got an orange one when I was 13. Loved it, still have it. Somehow I always liked that odd bodystyle too, though I usually don't dig hatches. If they brought it back I'd want it Spectraflame for the very first time. Oh, and Pokey's right, it's a G-Body. The X-Body was the Olds Omega, Chevy Citation, Buick Skylark, Pontiac Phoenix,
etc., replacing the Nova-type cars in 1980. The Flat Out I believe was based on a '78. |

Yes indeed! The X-cars were front wheel drive, transverse-engined, and had unit body construction. The 442/Cutlass was a rear wheel drive model with body-on-frame construction. The fastback bodystyle was not a hatchback; it had a conventional trunk. This was the "intermediate" chassis shared with the Malibu, LeMans, Regal, etc. Later, the X-cars were given longer front and rear overhangs and turned into cars like the Chevy Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Olds Ciera, and Buick Century. I always liked the Flat-out 442 too. The period from about 1978 to 1984 produced some really great Hot Wheels. |

As with the HWC Red Line Club, the BRR Club policy is to not respond to issues raised by its members. I will, however, point out that we hold our sales ad copy to the same high hotwheelscollectors.com standards of accuracy.
